The Spirit of
That Brewing Co

Established in 2013, That Brewing Co is the brainchild of Sean Roberts and Paul Ten Hoorn Boer. What started as a prediction that craft beer would wash upon Durban's shores has evolved into a beloved local institution.

After opening Unity Bar, Sean's chance meeting with home brewer Paul led to the construction of a 300-litre brewery in a garage. Today, they operate from The Foundry in Station Drive, boasting a restaurant and taproom that are a testament to their journey.

Brewing Beyond
the Garage

We believe that great beer is born from passion, experimentation, and a touch of daring. Our journey from a garage setup to a bustling taproom reflects our commitment to the craft and our community.

“We started with a dream and a 300-litre kit. Now, we're pouring our heart into every pint.”

At That Brewing Co, we focus on brewing beers that are flavourful, approachable, and full of character. Our Irish Red and other core beers are crafted to be enjoyed in good company, whether at our taproom or beyond.

Understanding Your Beer

Beers are rated by colour, alcohol content, and flavour — here's what it all means.

Colour & Clarity

ABV %

Flavour & Bitterness

Hops 🌿
Subjective & varied — adding different hops creates bitterness, aroma and taste.
Subtle Balanced Bold

Where Flavour Comes Alive

What you taste are the oils from the female flower of the hop vine — bitterness, aroma and taste depend on when they enter the kettle.

Timing is everything. Hops added early in the boil contribute bitterness, while late additions and dry-hopping bring aroma and flavour.

At That Brewing Co, we select hops that complement our beer styles — from the earthy notes in our Irish Red to the citrusy punch in our IPA. Every brew tells a story of place and passion.

From citrusy and floral to earthy and spicy, our hop profiles reflect the diversity of craft brewing.
